Sweat of Forget It

The afternoon is crunch time in a newsroom and today that's when I found myself draining quickly. Maybe it was because I didn't sleep enough the night before and I got up early for a run. Or maybe it was the time change and I am still getting used to it. All excuses aside though, I was out of energy and my work became clear evidence.

Television is a great platform to make an impact. So many people watch it and the fact that my work gets to go on it excites me and also humbles me. But, no matter how passionate we are sometimes we can lose sight of our purpose and our results will suffer. Like, have you ever gone for a workout but didn't break a sweat? Or, have you been to a meeting where you were too busy checking emails on your mobile device thoughout it to know the conclusion of the meeting?

It's easy for us to get complacent, especially when it's doing tasks we preform daily. Then, it just becomes routine and if we do them without intention behind them, the outcome of those tasks will often fall short of their potential.

I fell short today and I am not proud of it. But, I do know that if I can try my best to keep the reason why I do what I do at the forefront of my mind there will be a greater chance I reach my potential, that I walk away from my work in a sweat. Tomorrow I'll remember my passions and use them as inspiration if I find myself losing focus, will you?
