TV attracts some pretty interesting people. A newsroom is comprised of a lot of personality to say the least. Some are corky, some have big egos, and some you just wonder how the heck they got there... So maybe it's no different than your office?

In my job you work very closely with your co-workers. There are lots of high stress moments, and also a lot of down time, providing the perfect platform to get to know people pretty well. (It's very much a hurry up and wait game, all day, everyday.) One of those people I have gotten to know over the last year and a half left the station for a bigger and better job, (because that's what you do). He came back this weekend and I got to visit with him.

Eddie Randle was a newsroom favorite. Everybody liked him. It wasn't the skills he had as a photographer and journalist that made him an essential part of our news team. He did good work, but it was his 'happy go lucky' attitude that made him a favorite. Eddie never complained. He did what he was told, always doing it with a smile on his face. It was rare to see Eddie in a bad mood, but when he was, you knew, because it was such a contrast from the way he usually presented himself.

Eddie taught me how important character traits are when it comes to your job. They aren't necessarily things you can put on your resume, but they are greatly appreciated in the workplace. Little credit is given to those people, and now that he's gone it’s apparent; What a difference a smiling face can do in the office place.
