A Saturday Of Pleasure

If you thought I slept in on my first free Saturday (remember I don’t work anymore… well currently anyways) then you don’t know me very well. My alarm went off at 5:00 a.m., just like it has for the last year working at Fox 19.
I got up, had some coffee and did some writing. I was finished around 6:30 a.m. My friend Colleen told me the day prior all the running training groups around the area were doing a big long run event starting at 8:00 a.m. I took her up on her offer and joined.
Early Saturday morning runs used to be my favorite thing. I’d get up early, run, and be eating pancakes (because that’s my favorite thing) before most people were out of their beds. When I arrived at the meet up point I became giddy. Seeing everyone sporting bright running gear ready to hit the road… Aweee, my happy place!
Cincinnati has a great running community however because of my work schedule I haven’t been able to take part in it at all. I worked during the weekend morning long runs and I worked late on the weekday evenings when groups would get together for low mileage runs.
This morning was exactly what I needed. Productive with some pleasure. I got to experience one of my favorite weekend morning hobbies.

I ended up cutting the run short because I haven’t been running a ton lately. However when I pulled away I got lost. I tried to avoid a street with no sidewalks and I ended up having to put on a few more miles then planned. It was so peaceful. I can’t remember the last time I went on a run alone, without music or my running watch pacing me (mine died earlier that morning). This type of running, where it’s just you and the road, is what got me into the sport originally. It’s nice visiting old beginnings. What better time to than when I am about to start another too.
