People often say New Yorkers are short, harsh and won’t give you any of their time. This past week I have been shown that to be completely and utterly false. Not only have I received some New Yorker’s time, (the most valuable thing I believe we have,) but I’ve also been treated to a coffee and smoothie. Apparently it’s a New York thing to treat the new kid in town. I can’t wait until I can return the favor one day!
During this week I have reached out to dozens of people and had informational meetings all over the city. People I spoke with were happy to share their experiences and give me guidance as I embark on my move to the city. No one said the move will be easy. Most people told me to prepare to take some odd jobs and freelance for a while. In the end though, they say it will be worth it. I trust these people when they tell me this.
Many of the contacts I met with were in their late 20’s. These men and woman were successful in their careers and more than anything so confident. It’s something I am very attracted to. I can only hope that this move and the experiences I will get in N.Y.C. will have me grow the way these people have. These people have skills; they are good at what they do, however I don’t think that is what is putting them above the rest. I believe it’s their character. It’s their values and desire to do succeed.
My main reason for moving to N.Y.C. is to be in a progressive environment with high-level thinkers, just like the people I met this past week. I an excited to submerse myself in this culture. Only time will tell if it all pays off.

(A quick snap of my new city. I <3 NYC)
