Silence Births A Voice Inside

On a call I made to Customer Service for one of my credit cards the gal on the other side of the telephone said “You will hear a few moments of silence.” She said this to me again when she was preparing to type away on the computer and needed to focus on the task. Then, she did it again.

Silence. How often do we actually hear that in our world today? When we do miraculously find ourselves hearing nothing, we often pop in our earbuds and listen to our favorite tunes to avoid that quiet. We have become so uncomfortable with it.

Too much sound can be like clutter in a closet. You have too many things piled high you can’t even find the t-shirt you wanted to wear to work. What if we took out the unnecessary noise? Would it give more room for us to hear more intentionally? Perhaps we would be able to hear more clearly that voice within that helps guide us throughout our day. The voice we crave to hear, yet are to afraid to turn off the noise to listen to what we really want to hear.
