Generation Gap?

In Texas a few weeks back for a friend’s wedding my mom and I found ourselves doing what we Wopschalls do best, shopping. Going through the racks of clothing at Old Navy a common conversation amongst different generations emerged. “The world just isn’t what it used to be,” my mom concluded after she explained how the middle school students are trying to snap pictures with their phones under my sister’s dress. (She is a teacher.)
I pushed my mom. I’m known for pushing… “That is awful, but I don’t think that behavior is much different from when you were a kid. Teens have always been doing things they shouldn’t it just looks different with new technology,” I told her. The look my mom gave me told me she disagreed.
“Excuse me,” the woman next to us chimed in at the register. “What are you discussing?” The lady had overheard our discussion. We gladly versed her on the debate.
“Oh yes, my daughter is a teacher. We have to make sure she wears nothing revealing.” She went on. “Unfortunately though, when I went to school the boys would put mirrors on their hi-tops so they could see up our skirts. If they were able to take a picture, I am sure they would have,” she finished.
How often have you heard it said that life was much better “back then.” I often wonder though, was life all that different? The devices we use may not be the ones our parents used, but ultimately what we want in life is the same, isn’t it?
We want to be loved and give love and whether it’s the 1960’s or 2015 boys will always be boys… that’s a guarantee.
