You CAN

I couldn’t register what was happening until the words came spilling out of my mouth. “You can do this Lindsey! Fight through it. Don’t stop.” I was coaching myself as I struggled to run up a steep hill about a mile into my run.
Any motivational speaker or life coach will tell you, to accomplish anything the first thing you have to do is believe in yourself. You have to tell yourself you can do it. For me, that means literally cheering myself on when I find myself feeling weak.
Once you believe in yourself you have to get yourself out there and start doing it. For me, that means getting out there to run. I am preparing for another marathon. It’s been two years since the first marathon I ran and in some ways I am more anxious. Prepping last time I didn’t struggle mentally, I knew if I put in the effort I would get through it. However, now I have set the stakes higher with a new goal. A goal, I am nervous I can’t complete. Using language like that though, “can’t” I never will.
There are so many ways to change your frame of thought. If you feel weird talking to yourself, which I do as well, (but it turns out it somewhat happens on its own,) then you can always write it out. Write with a pen and paper what you want to do. Make it visible. Think about it daily. Envision yourself doing what you want to accomplish and those can’ts will start turning into cans.
