Yesterday, I was assigned to go up to Sharonville for a story about a group trying to save a high school mural. Princeton High School built a new campus across the street from its old facility, which is where a Cincinnati artist, Carl Zimmerman, created a piece representing Shakespeare’s “Seven Ages of Man,” in 1958.

My knowledge of Shakespeare is not that great to be honest, just your typical grade school and high school classes, but researching this story gave me a chance to explore.

I really enjoyed reading Shakespeare’s lines. He seems to put us in our place, a reminder that this universe is much bigger than we are, and that we are “merely players.”

The Cincinnati artist depicted the seven different stages of life. The piece has all the letters of the alphabet, with the idea that with letters becomes words, with words becomes knowledge, and with knowledge becomes wisdom… a pretty powerful piece of art work to have at a school if you ask me.

Graduating college I was sad to leave the educational environment, but I knew it was only the beginning for me. As a journalist I get to learn something new everyday. I am placed in environments I never would put myself in. It pushes me to explore different corners of society, opening my mind to new ideas.

We should never story learning. When we stop learning, we become stagnant and we stop growing. This life is meant to be lived, so learning is a must.

If you want check out the story I put together on the artwork check out this link. It is going to cost $224,000 to save the piece from being demolished with the rest of the old campus. You’ll find ways you can help save it, if the piece inspires you too.
