A Day like Today

1) The sky was blue and the sun was shining. WIN.
2) I experienced something new. WIN.
3) I attended a fabulous event, full of fun and energized people. WIN. Oh… and I get to call it work. Double WIN.
I’m a sucker for a good community event. I’d like to think it’s a good problem to have. Bring in a great cause with some caring people and you have the recipe to my heart. Today’s ingredients included hundreds of people from Kentucky and Ohio splashing into some freezing water to raise money for Special Olympics. My friends, this is what we call the Polar Plunge.
I profiled the event for our morning show and that’s when I tried on something new. Literally. I put on, as Boone County Water Rescue calls it, the Gumby suit. The suit protects you from getting wet in water. Ideal for someone who is being asked to get in a pool of freezing water and has no desire to go to the Emergency Room for hyperthermia afterwards. (A bit dramatic? Maybe. Cold temperatures just aren’t my thing).
I apologize for the sore neck you will have from watching this video. My iPhone isn’t working properly, thus didn’t adjust when the camera was held horizontally while it was recording.
Also, I told you the sun was shining and there were no clouds in sight… but, did I mention today’s high was in the upper 50’s? This California girl likes… likes a lot.
It was a long day at work. Ten hours to be exact, but the entire time was enjoyable. The best part, I got to put it all together in a fun little story. These are the types of things I like sharing with the world, “Do gooders” having fun.
Enjoy!
