Snow Day

It is now day three of some pretty hefty snowfall in Cincinnati. In the newsroom that means NON-STOP winter weather coverage. Monday I hung out in Walton, Kentucky, where I reported on the weather for live cut-ins. You might be surprised to find out that I actually enjoyed it. Specifically when I got down and well….
The idea of a snow day has always sounded amazing to me. I say “idea,” because although I have lived in several cities where snow days do occur, I have yet to be called off from work. In Spokane, Washington, when Gonzaga University closed down for some winter weather I worked at Nordstrom… that place does not close. Now working in news, snow days equal big days of live coverage throughout the day.
Snow days seem like this massive gift of time. Suddenly you can’t do anything or go anywhere. You’re most likely spending the day inside with your family, playing card games, making hot chocolate and watching movies. It’s like Mother Nature is telling us to slow down and reconnect with what matters most, spending time with the people we love.
So if you are lucky enough to call this day a snow day, cherish it. Use this time to better yourself. Maybe that means reading a book that’s been sitting on your nightstand you just haven’t gotten into yet or maybe that means checking in with your grandmother to see how she is holding up, whatever it may be just make sure to do it intentionally.
