Walking through the grocery store the other day with my hands full, (I went in for one or two items but came out with $50 worth... you know how that goes,) a man commented to me "Where's your grocery cart?" After the quick banter between us he said, "You're not Robin are you?" I told him I was not. The next day while having dinner with a friend she told me how much I reminded her of her close friend. She then showed me a picture of her friend. "You look so much like her, and your mannerisms are the same," she told me. I receive these types of comments quite often. Now, maybe you're thinking to yourself of course people think you look familiar, you're on TV... let me tell you, I have been getting these comment WAY before I started working in television.

The comment used to make me sad. We all want to be different, stand out and put our own stamp on the world, right? Yet, here I am being told I look and act exactly like someone's relative, friend, or whoever. A few year's ago I shifted my mindset. This negative attribute is now something I use to my advantage. People inherently like things familiar to them. So, being that people think they know me, I am more approachable. The intimidation of meeting someone for the first time doesn't exists because well, people think they've met me before. Perspective is powerful. There are many things we cannot change but we can change how we choose to look at them. Negative qualities don't have to be negative at all, all you have to do is adjust your lens.
