"Type Casting" - A Terrible Problem

When Taylor Swift announced she was going to make an all pop album some people were appalled. “She’s country,” critics said. I for one love Taylor’s album. I could also go on for hours about how great I think she is, but that’s a different topic.
We like to type cast people. Whether it’s a musician, actor, or even in my job as a reporter. I have been told several times I am a “soft-news, feature reporter.” I enjoy the morning news atmosphere, which is much different than the environment on evenings, but why do I have to be labeled?
The truth is, I have many sides. At times I can be cheerful and goofy, while others I am very serious and focused. These, and many more are expressions of who I am as a whole person. Not only do we have different sides of our personality but we also evolve. We are not stagnant. With life changing around us it would only be natural for us to change as well. Maybe that means you find a new hobby or change careers, or maybe like Taylor and so many other artists, you explore a new genre.
Society seems to shun this behavior of change. I challenge you to embrace it. Evolution is progress, and we should want to move forward to develop into who we are meant to be.
I leave you with a quick 30 seconds of "A Few sides of Lindsey."
