Privilege, More than Money

Sitting in my sophomore religion class, (I attended a Catholic school,) I remember my teacher talking about privilege. “Does everyone have two legs? Does everyone have their sight?” she asked. If Oprah was around I would tell her this was an “Aha moment” for me.
When we think of privilege we often think of wealth and education, but here my teacher was simplifying the definition of what privilege is. A privilege is something enjoyed by someone who has an advantage. The ability to see in front of you while walking on two legs is an advantage to those who don’t have those things. My friend Gabe, who wrote a Motivational Monday piece for my blog, would be the first to agree.
Nothing in this world is guaranteed. When you take a simpler approach of what privilege is you realize that everything you have is a gift. When we shift our minds to this frame of thought you can see how much you have in your life. Apply some gratitude for those gifts and you will greatly improve your happiness.
