Too Busy

There is something about being busy that I really enjoy. I love how it makes me feel important, having something always to fill my schedule. I love always being armed with a “to-do” list full of tasks. I know, I either sound crazy or super “type A,” which I have admitted to (the later one at least).
In college, while catching up with friends, I found myself and others often responding to the question “What have you been up to lately,” always as “I’ve just been so busy.” I realized I will always “be busy” because I don’t like just sitting around, so I will always find a way to keep my schedule full.
I decided I would stop saying I was busy because it didn’t do anything to connect me with the person I was talking to. Instead it created distance. Being busy then, just becomes an easy way to engage in merely surface level conversation, and I wanted to dig deep.
I also started to see being busy as an excuse. At the end of the day you make time for the things that are important for you. If someone suggests getting together with you and you say you are “too busy,” you probably just don’t want to put in the work it takes to make that meeting happen.
Enjoy having a lot to do, but don’t let “being busy” draw you in to its negative attributes.
Here is a great article that I found that echoes my thoughts on being busy.
