Take On Change Like A Champ

Last night I got the news no one likes to hear, time to change. Just when I start getting familiar with the new features and buttons to press Apple has to go and make another update. Yes, I am talking about the Apple’s IOS 8.3 update I was recommended to install.

I remember when Apple did its last big update and the classic Apple iPhone changed tunes. (I am of course referring to the classic ringtone it had for years.) I died a little bit inside.

So these Apple updates might not be as overwhelming for you as they are for me. That’s because “tech” isn’t my first language. If something goes wrong on a computer, I panic. Fortunately, I have enough great friends who are willing to help me out. Still though, when things have to change, I have a tough time getting used to it.

It’s a common problem. No one really likes change. That’s why many people have the “It ain’t broke so don’t fix it,” and the “I’ve done it this way for years, no reason in trying something new now” mentality.

There is a change I don’t mind. The other day I had no problem going into T.J. Max and picking up a couple new pieces to add to my wardrobe. (A navy eyelet top and a pair of colorful flower paints... that’s what I call being a Maxxanista.) It’s spring, thus it’s time for an updated. It’s nice to have some new pieces to mix with some of the old ones I have.

Change is going to happen and in the end usually people discover they like the new improvement. It’s not change we can’t handle; it’s the transition to change that makes us go nuts. By seeing the changes I make to my wardrobe and how necessary they are to keep my look fresh and interesting, I understand the importance of doing the same with my tech devices… after all, have you seen those new Emojis? Impressive.

To have progress, we must embrace change. Relating the concept to something I enjoy, like style, I am able to see how I need to “clean out my closet” in other parts of my life too.
