More Reward In The Climb

I used to think that at a certain age I would have it all figured out. I would have accomplished my career goals and be at the job I desired. I would have a husband and a few adorable children. You know, the cookie cutter life our culture likes to idolize. It would be “perfect.”
As I have grown, and I still very much am growing in my thoughts, I have questioned this mentality. If I reach the point in my career where “I have made it,” what happens then? Do I put my car in park and sit there for forever?

True go-getters continue the journey because that’s the part they most enjoy. Look at Taylor Swift. She didn’t stop after receiving her first Grammy or when her album went platinum. She continues to rake in more awards because she continues to create. Now her creations are to a very different tune. There isn’t the slightest bit of Country in her latest Pop album. She’s exploring new mountains… and, in my opinion, doing a pretty good job at climbing those mountains too.
Successful, driven people don’t stop what they do because it’s not the achievements that drive them. It’s the process of getting to them. What if we all focused more on the process rather than the shiny medal we receive at the top?
The medals I have received from an award never taught me anything. It was the journey that got me there that did.
