I walked up to their home to find the front door open with two young girls standing in the entrance looking at me. As I got closer the girls ran off into hiding. “It’s her, it’s her,” they both shouted.
I had been asked to come to babysit. A mutual friend had recommended me. I chatted with their mother getting acquainted. Slowly the five-year-old twins crawled out of hiding. Five minutes later Molly and Katie were begging their mom to leave so we could play.
We built a fort, played board games and made a few crafts. In between those activities I was surprised when the girls came to me saying “I love you.” Just like that. Plain and simple.
The innocence of a child is something admirable and worth learning from. These two girls gave me their love so freely and effortlessly. How can we mirror this in our daily lives? Maybe we could try judging less and showing more unconditional love, not just to our immediate circle of friends and family either, but to all the people we come in contact with throughout our day.
